Vancity, in partnership with the Vancity Community Foundation has undertaken this special project; Women Entrepreneurs: Financial Opportunities & Growth (WE-FOG) with the financial support of Status of Women Canada.
One of the key questions we want to answer is:
Why do more women than men start businesses in Canada but more men grow them?
We are particularly interested in understanding how to strengthen the participation of specific profiles of women business owners – immigrant, Aboriginal and social entrepreneurs. Our intent is to educate ourselves and others about the barriers that different WE profiles encounter with scaling their businesses.
This project takes a collaborative approach and we have set up two advisory groups; one internal to Vancity and the other made up of community stakeholder organizations. Both advisory groups guide the project and will ultimately be key mechanisms through which to:
engage in pilot project activities;
receive, discuss and frame project learnings;
disseminate project learnings; and
structure future collaborations relating to women entrepreneurs.
